Troubles With Your Roofing That You Need To Be Aware Of

Posted on

It is essential that you are doing everything you can in order to keep a close eye on the condition of your roof. This way, you will be able to spot roofing troubles as soon as they make themselves apparent. Then, you can either try to resolve the issues on your own or call in a highly experienced residential roofing contractor. Not yet sure what you should be on the lookout for? Here are some signs of a troubled roof:

You See Green Stuff On The Shingles

Even if you cannot get a close look at it, if you can tell that there is something that is green on your shingles, that is a good sign that there is something wrong. Most likely, what you are noticing is green moss. Even though it may look harmless, the roots of the moss will dig into the asphalt shingles, which will result in them starting to fall apart in no time at all. You will want to hire a roofing contractor to remove the already damaged shingles and then lay new ones down before the growth of the moss gets out of control.

Shingle Corners Are Curled Up

You might only notice this on the random shingle here or there, but it is still something that you will want to bring to the attention of your trusted roofing contractor. Once the corners of the shingles start to curl or bend, they can end up coming completely off of the roof. This is because those corners are providing the best spot for the wind to get under the entire shingle and lift it from the roof. When the shingle starts falling from the roof, the roofing paper is exposed and it is only a matter of time before the rain and wind cause that to rip apart. Then you are left with the wood of the roof fully exposed to the elements and this is when major damage can be done. The wood can get moldy, causing mold to spread throughout your entire home, and swell up to the point that the entire roof will need to be replaced.

When you do notice that you are having trouble with your roof, you will want to call to set up an appointment with a trusted roofer right away. This is especially important during their busy season because you will not want to wait too long to get your roof fixed.
